Project Manager – Project Execution (BESS)

Role Overview

We are seeking an experienced Project Manager – Project Execution to oversee the construction and delivery of multiple Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) projects across Japan.

This role will be responsible for managing key counterparties including EPC contractors, equipment suppliers, local authorities, and community stakeholders throughout the project lifecycle. The successful candidate will play a critical role in ensuring projects are delivered on time, within budget, and in compliance with regulatory and safety requirements.

The position requires strong experience in Japanese construction practices, including both civil and electrical works, as well as the ability to coordinate with cross-functional teams during the transition from development to commercial operations.

Key Responsibilities

Project Execution & Construction Management

• Develop and manage detailed construction schedules for BESS projects across multiple locations in Japan.

• Coordinate EPC contractors, equipment suppliers (BESS systems, high-voltage equipment, and solar components), and other project stakeholders.

• Ensure compliance with safety standards, regulatory requirements, and contractual obligations during project execution.

Project Delivery

• Work closely with development teams to transition projects into the construction phase and support successful commissioning.

• Ensure projects are delivered according to agreed timelines and budgets.

Cross-Functional Coordination

• Collaborate with internal teams including engineering, finance, revenue optimization, and business development.

• Align project execution strategies with broader operational and commercial objectives.

Regulatory Compliance

• Prepare and submit regulatory documentation and operational reports required under capacity market contracts.

• Coordinate with grid operators and regulatory bodies to ensure compliance with all reporting requirements.

Reporting

• Provide regular progress reports and presentations to senior management covering project status, risks, and mitigation plans.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Energy Management, or a related field (advanced degree preferred).

• Minimum 5 years of experience in renewable energy project execution, power generation, or energy storage projects.

• Strong understanding of BESS technologies, including lithium-ion batteries, control systems, and balance-of-plant components.

• Solid knowledge of Japanese construction practices and project delivery processes.

• Strong stakeholder management and communication skills.

• Fluent Japanese required, English proficiency preferred.
