Description
Overview:
Non-profit Impact organization backed by major global tech companies, family offices & impact investors. Have been highly active and successful in Australia and are setting up an operation in Japan. The mission is to accelerate Japan's transition to a leading clean economy by bridging government, industry, and capital to turn Japan's industrial strengths into competitive advantage.
Responsibilities:
- Own day-to-day operations across finance, HR, governance, and internal infrastructure
- Build scalable systems, processes, and reporting frameworks to support all programs
- Drive execution across investment, grants, and advocacy initiatives, ensuring alignment and delivery
- Act as the central point of coordination across teams, leadership, and external stakeholders
- Provide clear visibility to CEO and Board on progress, risks, and performance
- Oversee budgeting, compliance, and risk management frameworks
- Support hiring, onboarding, and development of the local team (5–8 people initially)
This is the execution and operational backbone of the Japan platform. Sitting alongside the CEO, the COO is responsible for making sure strategy actually happens — turning high-level ambition into structured, repeatable delivery across investment, philanthropy, and advocacy. You will effectively build and run the organization from an operational standpoint. This means setting up the internal infrastructure, processes, and governance needed to deploy capital, run programs, and scale impact in Japan.
Requirements:
- Someone who has actually built and run operations, not just managed them
- Strong track record setting up systems, governance, and organizational infrastructure
- Comfort operating in ambiguity — this is a build environment, not a steady-state platform
- Solid financial and operational grounding (budgeting, compliance, reporting)
- Ability to work across functions and keep multiple workstreams moving at pace
- Fluent Japanese and business-level English
