Japan plans to add 50~70GW of pure renewable energy capacity by 2030, alongside their push for nuclear restarts and co-firing with hydrogen or ammonia. This is effectively a doubling of the current operational renewable capacity, and will be heavy in solar PV and wind power.

With the increase in intermittent power sources from renewables, the Government is also pushing for rapid expansion of energy storage projects, which is attracting a new wave of investments into the sector.
