Company:
A globally active, technology-driven energy storage developer backed by a major international infrastructure investor is scaling its presence in Japan. With several GW of energy storage capacity targeted in Japan alone, the company is positioning itself as a long-term player in supporting the country’s net zero ambitions.
The platform combines deep expertise across origination, development, power markets, and software optimization, delivering tailored energy storage solutions through a data-driven, partnership-focused approach. Already active across multiple continents, the company is now prioritizing Japan as a key strategic market, supported by significant capital and a growing local team based in Tokyo.
Role:
The company is seeking a Head of Investment and Origination – Japan to lead the strategy and execution of its battery energy storage business in the country. This is a high-impact leadership role with broad scope and ownership.
You will:
- Define and lead the investment and origination strategy for Japan, including identifying new sites and structuring deals.
- Build and manage a high-performing team across development, finance, legal, and engineering.
- Direct the partner and vendor strategy, scaling operations through local and international relationships.
- Oversee LTDA bid preparation and lead offtake strategies for both public and corporate opportunities.
- Manage project finance processes, including negotiations with Japanese and global lenders.
- Represent the platform in Japan, building and nurturing relationships with utilities, corporates, local governments, and industry groups.
Ideal Profile:
- 10+ years of experience in infrastructure investment, renewable project development, or principal investment, ideally with a focus on BESS.
- Proven experience in building teams and platforms in Japan or the broader Asia region.
- Strong understanding of the full project lifecycle, from origination to FID and financial close.
- A robust network within Japan, including offtakers, lenders, and development partners.
- Fluent in Japanese and English, with strong leadership, negotiation, and communication skills.
