Description
NEW – Legal Counsel | International Renewable Energy Developer
One of the fastest-growing renewable energy developers in Japan is expanding its portfolio of large-scale clean energy projects, including Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS). Backed by leading global investors, this company is positioned at the forefront of the energy transition in APAC.
As Legal Counsel, you’ll report directly to the Head of Legal and work closely with senior leadership and the Board on high-profile projects and transactions—spanning financing, development, construction, and operations. This role offers exposure to project finance, M&A, corporate governance, regulatory approvals, and stakeholder engagement, making it an ideal platform for an ambitious lawyer seeking impact and visibility.
Key responsibilities include:
- Drafting, reviewing, and negotiating agreements such as project finance, equity/debt structures, EPC, PPAs, and joint venture contracts
- Advising on corporate structuring, compliance, and governance matters
- Supporting regulatory approvals and filings with national and local government bodies
- Partnering with internal teams and stakeholders to provide timely, commercial legal advice
What they’re looking for:
- 7–15 years’ legal experience (law firm or in-house)
- Strong background in project finance, development, or energy transactions in Japan (renewables preferred; BESS a plus)
- Fluent in Japanese and English
- Independent, commercial, and able to build trust across stakeholders
This is a rare opportunity to gain board-level exposure and play a central role in Japan’s fast-growing renewable energy market. If this sounds interesting, let’s have a chat!
